Only a month after announcing that she and her husband were expecting their first child, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash., 3rd) delivered painful news Monday, telling her followers on Facebook that a recent exam revealed her baby suffers from a serious and often fatal condition known as Potter’s Syndrome.

According to the note co-signed by Herrera Beutler and her husband, Daniel Beutler, the couple has received a second medical diagnosis confirming the initial findings.

“We have had a second opinion and the medical diagnosis was consistent with the initial news: there is no medical solution available to us. We are praying for a miracle,” the letter read.

Herrera Beutler – now in her second term in office – also said she “will be able to continue to balance the responsibilities of an expectant mother with serving as your representative in Congress,” and asked for “prayers” and private space for her family.
